Video: How To Prepare The Fabric To Embroider A Patch

In this embroidery training video, I show you how to prepare the fabric that you have selected to use in creating your embroidered patches. I use a bonding film that I purchase from Stahls’ or Liebe, both tackle twill suppliers, but you can purchase small quantities from a local fabric store.

Video: How To Create A Custom Embroidered Patch

In this embroidery training video, I show you the simple process of how to create a custom embroidered patch. I have a technique that I use to create an outside edge on my patch border to make it easier to cut out the patch without cutting into my finished border. It also helps lock the border in and makes it look more like a Merrowed edge. This is the easiest way to finish off your border if you do not have the traditional Merrow or Serging machine that is normally used for finishing the edge of patches. If you have a lot of patches to do, you can use your border frame instead of hooping it.

Video: How To Finish The Custom Embroidered Patch

In this embroidery training video, I show you how to finish the custom embroidered patch. After you have completed it, you will want to give it a final press to lock in the color if you have touched up the edge with a permanent marker. The marker can bleed if it is not set with heat. When you press it, make sure that you lay it down on a sheet of Teflon. You can use a piece of aluminum foil if you do not have the sheet of Teflon.

Video: How To Work With Pre-Made Patch Blanks

In this embroidery training video, I show you different types of pre-made patches or patch blanks which you can purchase from a patch manufacturer. You can also create your own patch blanks when your machine is not busy. These pre-made patch blanks work very well for small service business customers. If you decide to create your own patch blanks, the best way is to install your border frame. Hoop your large piece of prepared patch fabric and program your machine to sew one patch over and over until your border frame is full. You can also do the same thing with a large jacket back hoop if you do not have a border frame attachment.

Video: How To Embroider Pre-Made Patch Blank

In this embroidery training video, I show you how to embroider on a Pre-Made Patch blank. There are some large patch companies, such as Penn Emblem, Stadri Emblem, and Lion Brothers that make and sell patch blanks. They are inexpensive and available in a large variety of color combinations. You can also purchase them through some embroidery supply distributors. All-Stitch is one distributor that I know carries them. If you are working with a small service business customer that wants company patches, this is the best way to go. You can purchase custom sized or design patch blanks if you have a large order or you can create your own patch blanks.

If you do not have a way to make a placement stitch box for the patch blank, you can do the following: draw a straight line on your backing, mark the center of the patch blank, spray the patch with adhesive, lay the patch on your line, center your needle on the center mark on the patch, and embroider it. If you do not have spray adhesive, you can tape the edges down instead.
